Our home in the hills

A ranch, a brewery, and a way of life

Lost Ridge is where Living Roots stops being a journey and becomes a place: an inn, craft brewery and riding ranch on a crest above the village of Qedeli, just outside Sighnaghi — overlooking the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus beyond.

It runs on its neighbours — around 70% of the team are local, most of them women and young people — and it’s where we co-developed Georgia’s first equestrian guide training program. It all began in 2012 with a horse ranch; today it is a six-room boutique inn, a three-barrel microbrewery with an outdoor fire kitchen, the 19th-century Archaeology Suite, the Piruza Cottage and a terrace cafe.

Lost Ridge on the crest above the Alazani Valley, Kakheti

How it began

From a horse ranch to a whole hillside

It started in 2012 with a string of horses and a crest of land above Qedeli, a near-forgotten village outside Sighnaghi. The idea was simple: give travellers a real reason to slow down in the Alazani Valley — and give the village a reason to stay.

A ranch became an inn. A love of good beer became a three-barrel brewery and an outdoor fire kitchen. Old buildings came back to life — the 19th-century Archaeology Suite, the Piruza Cottage, a terrace cafe. And along the way, Lost Ridge co-developed Georgia’s first training programme for equestrian guides.

Today it’s Living Roots’ home in the hills — where we test everything we preach about travelling well.

Three good reasons

Stay. Taste. Ride.

Boutique guest room at Lost Ridge Inn, Sighnaghi

Stay

Six rooms with a view

A small boutique inn — six rooms, the 19th-century Archaeology Suite and the Piruza Cottage — all looking out over the valley to the Caucasus. Woodsmoke, quiet, and a garden that feeds the kitchen.

SVIA craft ale brewed on site at Lost Ridge

Taste

SVIA ales & the fire kitchen

A three-barrel microbrewery pouring small-batch SVIA ales — a rare thing in wine country — alongside suppers cooked over open fire from the gardens and neighbouring farms. Georgia, from a different glass.

Horseback riding at Lost Ridge Ranch, Alazani Valley

Ride

Into the valley on horseback

Trail rides for complete beginners and confident riders alike, led by guides trained here through Georgia’s first equestrian guide programme. An hour before breakfast, or a full day into the hills.

What’s important

A place that gives back

70%

Guides trained here

Georgia’s first equestrian guide-training programme was co-developed at Lost Ridge — skills that stay in the valley.

Farm-fed

From the land around

Gardens, neighbouring farms and small producers feed the kitchen and the brewery — low-impact, seasonal and honest.

“We stayed at Lost Ridge Inn, Sighnaghi, for three nights, which was lovely… lots of Georgian wine and food tastings, and Living Roots makes sure local people benefit from tourism.”
